Discovering Belgrade on E-Scooter for the first time

My name is Jasper, I am 30 years old, I am from Amsterdam, and I’ve always loved exploring cities on two wheels. At home, I do it by bicycle, of course like a true Dutchman, but this year I decided to try something completely new in Belgrade: an e-scooter tour. A friend sent me a link with a recommendation and said, “If you want to see the real Belgrade, not just the tourist postcards, this is the real deal.” And he was absolutely right.

Tour guide Marko sharing Belgrade history on e scooter tour

The first tour I chose was the Belgrade Essentials Tour. Honestly, I didn’t know what to expect. I had seen pictures and read the description on the website, but I had no idea how much I would enjoy it. When I arrived at the starting point, I was greeted by a smiling group and Marko, our guide. From the first moment, I felt this wouldn’t be an ordinary tourist walk, but an adventure with great energy.

The e-scooters were brand new, comfortable, and fast, yet safe, perfect for riding through the city. Marko immediately gave us a brief but very clear introduction on how to use them. Although I ride a bike every day, this experience was different. You silently glide through the city, feel the wind, and yet you don’t spend energy pedaling, so you have more strength left to take in everything around you.

We started from the city center and soon found ourselves in places I didn’t even know existed. The Belgrade e-scooter tour is the perfect mix of famous landmarks and hidden corners. Marko told us stories you can’t find in guides, about the history of Kalemegdan, about the Danube and Sava rivers, about old buildings whose walls have seen so much. We stopped at spots with views of the rivers and bridges and took photos that looked like they came from a tourist magazine.

The Fun of Riding an E-Scooter in Belgrade

What surprised me most was how fun it was to ride an e-scooter in Belgrade. Although I thought it would be complicated, it was actually relaxed and easy. Marko guided us through wide paths, parks, and smaller streets, so we didn’t feel like we were rushing through a busy city. It was more like a leisurely ride with friends.

The group on the tour was diverse, with people from Canada, Australia, Germany, and me from the Netherlands. We quickly became friends. There was laughter, jokes, group photos, and Marko knew how to include everyone in the story. At one stop, we all tried Serbian coffee together, small, strong, aromatic, and served the traditional way, just as it’s done here.

The tour lasted several hours, but the time flew by. When we finished, I was completely thrilled. So much so that on the same day, as soon as I got back to my accommodation, I booked another one, the E-Scooter Zemun Tour.

Exploring Zemun by E-Scooter

Zemun was completely unknown to me. I only knew it was part of Belgrade but had no idea how different it is from the city center. This version of the Belgrade e-scooter tour takes you across the bridge, along the river, straight into a part of the city that has a completely different atmosphere. It is quieter, almost like a small town within a city.E scooter tour in Zemun along the Danube riverbank

Marko took us along the Danube shore, where cafes and restaurants are side by side, and the smell of grilled fish follows you as you ride. We stopped at the famous Gardoš and climbed to the tower from which you can see all of Zemun and the Danube stretching into the distance. Riding the e-scooter by the river was one of the most beautiful moments of my trip. Peace, a breeze, and you just glide silently, without noise and crowds.

What I liked most was that Marko wasn’t just a guide but also a host. He spoke passionately about his city, showing us details that an ordinary tourist would easily miss, old doors, unusual facades, murals, local legends. In one place, he even showed us where to eat the best fish soup, although that wasn’t on the tour plan.

Why E-Scooter Tours Are the Best Way to See Belgrade

As I expected after the first ride, this one also went perfectly. The people in the group were again from different parts of the world, and we all agreed that riding an e-scooter is the best way to see Belgrade. Unlike buses or walking tours, here you are on the move but still have time to stop and see everything up close.

After the second tour, Marko and I sat down for a drink. We talked about all the other places to see in Serbia, and that’s when we agreed, I’m coming back in the fall. The plan is to visit sights outside Belgrade!

What I realized after these two Belgrade e-scooter tours is that such tours aren’t just a way to see the city. They are an experience that combines adrenaline, relaxation, socializing, and learning. And all in a city that is lively, energetic, and full of contrasts.

Dutch tourist riding e scooter through Belgrade city center

If I were to recommend to someone from the Netherlands or any other country how to get to know Belgrade, I would say: “Leave the map,

take an e-scooter, and go with Marko.” Because only when you feel the wind on your face crossing the Branko’s Bridge, or when you stand on the Danube shore as the sun sets, do you understand what it means to experience a city.

I tell everyone how a Dutchman can fall in love with riding through Serbian streets, not because of speed, but because of the stories, the people, and the unforgettable views.

If you ever think about visiting Belgrade, don’t miss the chance to try the e-scooter tour. Trust me, as someone from a country where life is born and lived on two wheels, this experience opened a whole new perspective for me. And yes, I already told Marko, see you soon.
